June 2026 Board of Education Meeting Synopsis

At the June 1, 2026, Board of Education meeting, President Luis Alcantara thanked the community for supporting the 2026-2027 budget. He acknowledged School Board members Mr. Jim Musumeci and Mr. Ralph Delgado, Jr., for their years of service on the Board and congratulated Mrs. Leida Morales and Mr. Jeff Rosado on their election to the Board. Mrs. Michele Harriott was reelected to serve a fifth term.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sharon A. Dungee presented several recognitions:

• Dr. Dungee extended congratulations and presented plaques to outgoing Board members Mr. Musumeci and Mr. Delgado, Jr., in recognition of their dedication and service to the school district and its students.

• Student ex officio Board members Sabrina Delgado-Flores and Taylor Burrell Ford received plaques of appreciation from Dr. Dungee on behalf of the Board of Education and administration. "You helped tremendously on the Superintendent's Student Council and Advisory Board. You are stellar students, your voices matter, and you are always looking for solutions," Dr. Dungee stated. Central Islip High School Principal Eric Haruthunian added, "Taylor and Sabrina embodied and advocated for their peers, and they are going to leave a legacy for students at Central Islip High School."

• Dr. Dungee also recognized Mr. John Bilski for his videos, photographs, and drone images that capture the essence of Central Islip Schools and highlight the best of the school district's students and staff. Mr. Bilski accepted the plaque, thanking school officials and the school community.

• Alfano Elementary School custodian Larry Lograsso was heralded for his kindness and for going above and beyond to support students. In accepting his certificate from Dr. Dungee, Mr. Lograsso credited his coworkers for inspiring him to be a better person and recognized the special education staff, whom he said connect meaningfully with students. Mr. Lograsso also extended a heartfelt acknowledgment to his son.

Also at the meeting, Dr. Dungee showcased the June 1 Senior Walkthrough Day, during which high school seniors returned to their elementary schools to retrace their steps through the hallways where they once attended school before climbing the academic ladder to 12th grade.

Mr. Alcantara announced several administrative appointments approved by the Board, including:

• Dr. Nicole Lefferts as principal of Mulligan Elementary School.
• Ms. Jasmin Dengeles as principal of Alfano Elementary School.
• Ms. Janelle Lugo-Elmore as assistant principal of Alfano Elementary School.
• Ms. Elizabeth Gibbons as assistant principal of Reed Middle School.

Also receiving new appointments are:

• Mulvey Elementary School Principal Mr. Brett MacMonigle, who will move to Reed Middle School as principal.
• Mr. Tim Lynam, principal of Mulligan Elementary School, who will assume the role of principal at Mulvey Elementary School.

The next meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for July 7 at 7 p.m., when the Board will hold its annual reorganization meeting, followed by the regular business meeting, at Alfano Elementary School, 50 Wheeler Road, Central Islip.

In closing the meeting, Mr. Alcantara wished everyone a safe and happy summer.
